Homeowners insurace is a big deal. For most people, it protects your biggest investment. So here is a little about what it is...it provides financial protection against disasters. A standard homeowners policy will insure the home itself and the things you keep in it.
You could consider it a package policy. This means that it covers both damage to your property and your liability, or legal responsibility, for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family cause to other people. This includes damage caused by your four-legged family members too and any other household pets you may have.
It is important to note that your homeowners policy covers most damage caused by most types of disasters but there are exceptions. The most significant are damage caused by floods, earthquakes and poor maintenance.
You can buy separate policies for flood and earthquake coverage. But as far as maintenance-related problems, they are the homeowners' responsibility.
